Mission Statement
“The mission of the Summerville Community Orchestra is to enrich the cultural climate of the greater Summerville area with entertaining and educational performances; and to provide opportunities for volunteer musicians to play for the pure joy of it.”
The Summerville Community Orchestra is made up of musicians from Summerville, South Carolina and the Lowcountry.
The SCO was founded in 2003 by a group of approximately 20 musicians, who gathered for the purpose of playing quality music for the pure joy of it; some were professionals, others were amateurs; all were volunteers, including the director, George Frink, of Charleston.
Concert performances were given twice a year, which were well received by the community. In February 2005, the present-day orchestra re-formed from the remnant of the earlier group, and has maintained a schedule of annual concerts in Summerville and as part of Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
We welcome you to enjoy our music!
