Mission Statement
About The Summerville Community Orchestra
“The mission of the Summerville Community Orchestra is to enrich the cultural climate of the greater Summerville area with entertaining and educational performances; and to provide opportunities for volunteer musicians to play for the pure joy of it.”
The SCO was founded in 2003 by a group of approximately 20 musicians, who gathered for the purpose of playing quality music for the pure joy of it; some were professionals, others were amateurs; all were volunteers, including the director, George Frink, of Charleston.
Concert performances were given twice a year, and were well received by the community. In February 2005, the present-day orchestra re-formed from the remnant of the earlier group, and hired Music Director Alexander Agrest to conduct. Summerville Community Orchestra presents concerts in the tri-country area as well as part of Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
We welcome you to enjoy our music!
